Understanding the benefits of chemical peels in skin rejuvenation
- Posted on: Dec 15 2018
At Kaizen MediSpa, we welcome patients in Bethesda, MA and the surrounding communities to discuss solutions for their skin and body when problems arise. Some patients are seeking skin services that can be used to improve overall health and appearance, while others are interested in treatment that can be used to address a variety of medical or aesthetic concerns. For many of these patients, Dr. Joe McDonald and his team may suggest the advantages of chemical peels.
What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a treatment that is done on the skin to remove the dead skin cells from the surface and stimulate new skin cell turnover. This results in more youthful, fresher skin from underneath. Patients love the ability to choose the strength of chemical peel they desire. These work by combining special combinations of chemical ingredients and working them into the skin, then removing shortly after. This short period of time allows the chemical ingredients to start working their magic on the skin and providing amazing results!
How strong is a chemical peel?
There are different types of chemicals that can be used for skin enhancement, and the strength of the chemical peel will vary depending on these ingredients. There are some acids that are used for a superficial, light peel such as salicylic acid, or other acids such as TCA that can be used for a more aggressive, deeper peel. The type of peel needed will vary depending on the patient. Patients who want faster results and are willing to deal with a short period of social downtime can use a more aggressive chemical peel, but patients who want to undergo more peels with no downtime will want to consider the superficial options.
